Fistula is one of the most painful ailments that can affect any individual at any age. The reason of getting anal fistula can be any, but most common being mucus glands occasionally getting clogged and becoming infected, leading to an abscess. About half of these abscesses may develop into a fistula. Fistula can become painful and can affect free mobility of any one.
Before knowing about the anal fistula diet plan, you should also know about its causes and symptoms.

- Bleeding/foul-smelling pus oozing near anus.
- Discomfort around the skin of the anus .
- Problems with bowel movements.

Bowel movements are closely associated with your food intake. When you are suffering from a gastrointestinal condition like fistula, this association only increases. For every gastrointestinal disease or condition like piles, fistula, fissure, etc., your doctor will always suggest you change your diet. This helps in relieving the symptoms of the condition and also helps with easy bowel movements.
Eating foods that help in faster recovery is important when it comes to fistula. What’s even more important is avoiding the foods that can worsen your condition. After all, the aim is to get better and not worse.
Foods to avoid for fistula:
High-fat Dairy products: Double fat milk, cheese and other heavy milk and cream products should be avoided as they are harder to digest and can cause stomach ailments.
Fast food: Fast foods are no doubt delicious and mouth-watering to taste. Street vendors selling all kinds of lip-smacking dishes should be avoided by fistula patients. Fast food consumption should be toned down, along with consumption of food items made with purpose flour (maida) should be curbed until symptoms have lessened.
Spicy foods with chilly powder: Indian dishes often consist of spicy pastes and curries that are quite difficult to digest. Try consuming simple homemade food that can be made accordingly. Anything that aggravates the stomach will not be a great option to try while suffering from an anal fistula.
Fried foods: Negligible nutrition content, hard to digest and not healthy, fried food should strictly be avoided if you have an anal fistula.
Salty foods: Bloating can make excretion tedious. Consuming too salty food items will not only make you feel bloated but may also aggravate your stomach and cause irritable bowel syndrome.
Red meat: There is nothing new in the fact that red meat is quite hard to digest. Having very little fibre, the stomach takes a lot of effort to digest it and it does not even add bulk to the stool. Thus, too much red meat cooked in oil and spices should be kept at bay.
Alcohol: Dehydration can make stool passing difficult. Alcohol heavily contributes to dehydration in the body. A heavy amount of alcoholic beverages can pose a problem for people with fistula.
Caffeinated beverages: Strong coffee like black coffee or heavy milk tea is no doubt exquisite, but should be avoided as long as your symptoms are not gone.
Packaged foods: Pre-packed foods like chips, fries and frozen food items should not consume in moderation or avoid. They barely have any nutritional content that gets lost in the freezing process.
Apart from these foods, you should eat your meals on time, avoid heavy meals and drink a lot of water. However, if the issue persists or you have extreme pain or discomfort, you should always an Ayurveda specialist to get a better prospective of your problem. Remember that at times in aggravated condition life style changes and food habits become secondary to external and internal medicine.
